Home Learning Inequalities among Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Migrant Communities
Kidist Teklemariam and Alice Tooley
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic families are now responsible for directing their children’s home learning. This has exacerbated existing educational inequalities among disadvantaged pupils and those who do not have suitable home learning environments. Through our research we have identified additional barriers that are affecting students from refugee, asylum seeker and migrant backgrounds. We have suggested recommendations, which need to be put in place promptly, in order to reduce the attainment gap for asylum seekers, refugees and migrant communities.
