GOVERNANCE

Governance that protects trust

URP’s governance is designed to protect people, steward resources responsibly and keep decisions accountable to community benefit. This page summarises the structures, policies and controls that guide our work.

A Community Interest Company

Unleashing Refugee Potential C.I.C.
Community Interest Company • Company No. 11760631

URP operates for community benefit and within the asset-lock principles of a Community Interest Company, helping keep organisational resources focused principally on community benefit.

Board-led accountability

The Board of Directors acts as URP’s management committee and retains responsibility for organisational governance, safeguarding oversight, financial accountability and project compliance.

Advisory members contribute professional, community and lived-experience insight and external challenge without automatically holding formal grant or financial accountability.

Policies that guide our work

Our policies translate governance principles into practical expectations for how people are protected, information is handled and activities are delivered. Open any card for a short summary.

Safeguarding & duty of care

Safeguarding is treated as a shared responsibility across URP’s projects, activities and partnerships.

URP’s approach is based on data minimisation, lawful processing, secure records and proportionate information sharing. Wider learning is anonymised unless appropriate consent has been obtained, while safeguarding or legal duties can require information to be shared where necessary.

Equality, inclusion & dignity

URP aims to create fair, respectful and accessible spaces for participants, staff, volunteers and partners.

The policy framework addresses discrimination and barriers linked to protected characteristics as well as language, migration experience, poverty, caring responsibilities and digital exclusion. Accessible communication, reasonable adjustments and culturally responsive practice are used where possible.

Health, safety & risk

Activities are planned with proportionate attention to safety, accessibility, venues, equipment and participant wellbeing.

URP uses risk assessment, venue checks, incident reporting and safe-delivery arrangements across community spaces, partner venues and project activities. Health and safety is considered alongside safeguarding, accessibility, confidentiality and emergency planning.

Insurance & responsible delivery

Delivery arrangements are checked so suitable insurance, permissions and safety controls are in place where required.

URP checks venue suitability and relevant insurance arrangements alongside its own safeguarding, confidentiality and risk-management procedures. New or expanded delivery is expected to proceed only after the necessary checks and approvals are confirmed.

Governance in practice

Governance is also reflected in how decisions, resources and partnerships are managed in everyday work. Open any card for a short summary.

Board oversight & decisions

Directors provide strategic direction, collective oversight and clear responsibility for organisational decisions.

Read governance summary
URP’s governing framework places management responsibility with its Directors. It covers collective decision-making, conflicts of interest, records and accounts, helping ensure important responsibilities and decisions can be documented and reviewed.

Financial stewardship

URP maintains financial records and applies oversight to grants, expenditure, reporting and statutory accounts.

Financial governance includes maintaining appropriate records and evidence, monitoring expenditure and reporting against agreed responsibilities. Statutory financial statements and Board oversight form part of URP’s accountability to funders, partners and regulators.

Partnership accountability

Formal partnerships are supported by clear roles, review arrangements and shared standards for responsible delivery.

Written partnership arrangements can set out responsibilities for delivery, safeguarding, financial management, monitoring, data protection, quality assurance, dispute resolution and review. This helps partners understand who is accountable for what while keeping participant protection central.
